INTRODUCTION HIBO FISHERY COOPERATIVE IS A LOCAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION WORKING ON FISHERY LIVELIHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT FOR FOOD SECURITY AND TO REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT IN SOUTH AND CENTRAL SOMALIA. HIBO FISHERY HAS CLOSE COLLABORATION AND COOPERATION WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, NGOs, AND INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES INCLUDING FAO, MERCY CROP, GEEL PROJECT, AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.

 ON LAST MONTH MARCH 2022
 
  HIBO fishery cooperative development organization facilitated the distribution of fishery boats, motor sand fuel from Qatar charity. HIBO fishery distributed 4 fishery boats and 4 motors including 10 letter fuel for each boat 12 young boys gaining an employment in banadir region. Below pictures show you more info than words
SECOND ACTIVITY IN MARCH 2022

As most of the people were aware of it, last years monsoon disappeared more boats about 4 small boats each crewed about 4 to 5 young fishermen. One of that boats and its crew has been found a live and imprisoned in Sri lanka.

The young fisher men were not planned on going off the shore, but they were caught by the strong south west monsoon and low feasibility of rainy weather. When they were realized that they are in danger or trouble it was unfortunate because of lack of communication device and GPS on board. The Somali current and strong winds of south west monsoon pushed their small boat to the direction offshore.

The young fisher men keep drifting in two months the young fisher men suffered mentally and physically. They were praying looking at the horizon for help to come. On the small fishing boat there were no supplies and they lived by eating raw fish and the was burning the skin. The boat become disabled and was drifting north east word with the south west monsoon wind direction. They reach thousand nautical miles away from Mogadishu in Somalia, coming to the off coast Sri lanka.

In Sri lanka waters they saw fishing boat and they got help. But the Sri lanka fishing boat kept the men other two months on their boat and later took them to the coast.

At the Sri lanka, coast guard treated them as Somali pirates and imprisoned them. It has been advised to Somali embassy at new Delhi, in India. The good news came from the Somali embassy that at least there are 5 young fisher men missing at the sea.

HIBO fishery was facilitating there turn of these 5 young fisher men for the last 10 months, first distributing the missing information to the Somali authority, and the coordinating there turn when they have been found in Sri lanka prison.

HIBO fishery was working with:
1- Somali ministry of foreign affair
2- Somali embassy in India
3- Ministry of ports and marine transport
4- Ministry of fishery and marine resources
5- federation of Somali workers association
6- Families of the missing fishermen

Them other sand fathers of the young fishermen were happy to find again the 5 of those missing since last monsoon period it is about 10 months.

On 2 April the 5 young fishermen found in Sri lanka prison was landed in Mogadishu international airport.

Minister of ports and marine transport, Minister of youth and sports, Chairman of HIBO fishery, Deputy chairman of Somali federation of workers, The families of 5 young fishermen welcomed the 5 returnees with: welcome home.
